Maintaining Standards

Maintaining high standards of care has always been a central principle at this practice. This has enabled us to maintain an excellent reputation not only amongst the patients of the practice but also with other dental surgeons who refer their patients for specialist treatment.

All registered members of the dental team (dentists, nurses and hygienists) have to be registered with the General Dental Council who monitor the continuous professional training through the whole career.

At St Dunstan's Dental Practice we are always keen to learn from others and participate in two schemes that encourage and assess high standards.

We have achieved accreditation with the BDA "Good Practice Scheme" each year since 2005. Having achieved this status 10 years running we have now been awarded Gold Member Status, an achievement of which we are very proud. The practice is assessed on achieving the following standards:

1. We aim to provide dental care of consistently good quality for all patients
2. We only provide care that meets your needs and wishes
3. We aim to make your treatment as comfortable and convenient as possible
4. We look after your general health and safety while receiving dental care
5. We follow current guidelines on infection control
6. We check for mouth cancer and tell you what we find
7. We take part in continuing professional development to keep our skills and knowledge up-to-date
8. We train all staff in practice-wide work systems and review training plans once a year
9. We welcome feedback and deal promptly with any complaints
10. Every member of the practice is aware of the need to work safely under General Dental Council guidelines

We are one of a few practices in Kent that have achieved the Denplan Excel Standard. This is a voluntary programme and part of this involves a detailed assessment of the practice by another visiting dentist who examines many aspects in great detail.

In applying for this prestigious accreditation, each Denplan Excel practitioner and their team commit to support a consistent Statement of Principles.

We commit to the measurement of clinical effectiveness and oral health and ensure this is communicated to patients, both individually and as a group.

We will support patients in knowing what is being done and why to ensure their best opportunity for improving oral health.

We will know and fully record the state of the oral health of all our patients and involve patients fully in decisions regarding their ongoing care and treatment.

We care what our patients feel and think about the practice and will listen and act upon their views and opinions.

We are committed to opening our practice and procedures to regular independent monitoring and to act upon the results.

We undertake to practice using the most appropriate procedures and dental knowledge and to ensure both the dentist and practice team are up-to-date with the latest dental and customer care techniques.
